Natural Stomach Remedies

10 home and herbal remedies that can help soothe various types of belly discomfort:

Ginger : is known to possess anti-inflammatory properties plus other benefits. It helps in easing stomach pains, as well as aiding in digestion. One can take this by peeling and grating the ginger and making a tea out of it.

Fennel or liquorice : are similar in taste even though they come from different plants and are found in a number of herbal teas, as well as supplements for digestive upsets. Chewing a fresh slice (bulb) of fennel can ease stomach pain. Continue reading Natural Stomach Remedies

Cleansing the system using biochemic tissue salts

When beginning a detoxification program, using tissue salts just before your main detox regime may help with the process.

Start the day with fresh lemon (preferably organic) in warm filtered water – at least 500 mls.
Day 1 – Take Calc Sulph (#3) to purify the blood. Take 4 tablets, placed under the tongue to dissolve, 6 times a day, spaced approx. 4 hours apart.
Day 2 – Take Kali Mur (#5) to help correct sluggish, congested conditions. Take 4 tablets, placed under the tongue to dissolve, 6 times a day. Spaced approx. 4 hours apart.
Day 3 – Take Nat Sulph (#7) to help with a congested liver. Take 4 tablets, placed under the tongue to dissolve, 6 times a day, spaced approx. 4 hours apart.
Do not drink any liquid for 30 minutes after taking the tissue salts.

For extra detoxifying, have an Epsom salt bath at night. A common formula is to add a cup or two of Epsom salt to warm water in a standard-size bathtub. If your bathtub is bigger or smaller than most, you may want to adjust the amount of Epsom salt you add – remember more salt isn’t necessarily better. Make sure you drink lots of water during and after your bath!

Once you have followed this three-day tissue salt cleansing program, begin taking the supplements and following the detox diet prescribed for you.

Trust a cow . . . . or a chemist?

When it comes to the debate of butter vs margarine there is a wealth of information on the internet. Unfortunately, there are times when even the professionals say things that challenge common sense, or support theories from the dark ages. For example, when they tell people that vegetable oil laden with emulsifiers, colourants and artificial ingredients commonly known as margarine is better for you than butter.
This is a topic that could potentially take over our blog so for this article, let’s simply look at how each is made:

BUTTER:
Butter is made by churning fresh or fermented cream or milk, to separate the butterfat from the buttermilk. Put butterfat in a container and use.
The End

MARGARINE :
This is like a science experiment so I’ll do this in point form. Stage 1 is called refinement where the oil is extracted from seeds or beans and refined. Stage 2 is called processing where oil and other materials are added and made into margarine. Continue reading Trust a cow . . . . or a chemist?

Why SURVIVE when you can THRIVE?

Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA)
The RDA is defined as, “the daily dietary intake level of a nutrient considered sufficient to meet the requirements of nearly all (97–98%) healthy individuals in each life-stage and gender group.” So in plain english, this is the amount of nutrients any healthy person requires, on a daily basis, to survive. NOTE: HEALTHY PERSON

Optimal Daily Intake (ODI)
This is a level of intake that takes into consideration a person’s genetic background, their environment – both in their home and their place of employment (or where they spend the majority of the day) – as well as their daily habits such as smoking, drinking, stress levels, prescription medications, and other factors unique to them.
In considering all of these factors, the ODI would reveal an optimal level of intake for an individual. Each person has individual optimal requirements which depend on his or her unique biological makeup and living situation. Because of the uniqueness in requirements among people, establishing an average intake level can be very difficult. It thus becomes more useful for individuals rather than for the general population. So, this is the amount of nutrients, an individual with unique circumstances and health issues, requires to survive . . . . and in turn, thrive!

Vitamins02

For example: the RDA for vitamin B6 is 2mg. Vitamin B6 is used for a number of functions in the body and the general population will survive on that RDA.
Now take a person who works in a stressful environment, possibly drinks a bit too much and tends towards depression due to the stress. 2mg is never going to be enough to help the body cope with stress, let alone cope with the depression, drinking and other ailments that WILL eventually crop up. The ODI of 10-25mg would be more appropriate to help the person and their body cope with their lifestyle and instead of just surviving, they’ll correct the deficiency and begin to thrive.
